TEAM INDIANA WINS GILMOUR ACADEMY

BROTHER JAMES MEMORIAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to Coaches Manard, Murray, Wait and the Team Indiana players for their recent tournament victory at Gilmour Academy, in Cleveland, Ohio.

In Game 1, Team Indiana beat Pine-Richland, PA (6-1).  TI players Whalen, Girardin, Bennett and Gates all scored a goal for TI while Roche contributed 2.  Assists went to Lee (4) and Bancroft.

TI tallied another win (4-3) in Game 2 against Gilmour Academy. TI goals came from Jacoby, Roche, and Bennett (2). Assists came from Bennett, Roche, Lee, and Eaton.

Game 3 delivered another TI win (3-1) against Cheektowaga, NY. Goals came from Barney, Bennett, and Gates. Assists came from Wagner, Roche and Vandebelt.

In the Championship game, TI faced off against Culver Academy.

An exciting, hard fought game was played for 3 periods, ending up in a tie, forcing the teams into an OT situation. Players Vandebelt and Bennett each scored in regulation for TI with assists coming from Barney, Eaton and Lee.

After the first sudden death OT, playing 4 on 4, the score still remained tied, forcing a second sudden death OT, playing 3 on 3.

Both teams battled several minutes with tons of intensity until Team Indiana player Barney scored the winning goal from a pass from Jacoby.

Coach Manard commented that he was very, very proud of his Team Indiana, “although we were short a few players and did not have our entire team at this tournament, our guys listened, gave 110%  and executed. Each of our goaltenders, Bove, Phelps and Turnock played great and were vital components to our success. I am looking forward to having the entire squad together for the first time at the Americas Showcase in April.”

The tournament selected players Bancroft, Bennett, Gates, Turnock and Wagner to the honorable “All Tourney Team” for their excellent play. Goalie Turnock was selected MVP of the tournament.
