This award was established in 2009 to honor an Indiana high school referee who most emulates Roy Chin’s style.  For 49 years Roy did more than just referee HS Hockey.  He was a leader and mentor to all officials regardless of their skill levels.  Roy taught discipline, rules knowledge, how to officiate without arrogance and never lose the love of hockey.  His officiating students have skated at all levels of amateur and professional hockey.  Roy was a past recipient of USA Hockey's Chet Stewart Award for lifetime achievement.  Recipients of the Roy Chin award are HS officials who also mentor fellow officials and dedicate time to administrate HS hockey officiating.
